Who did Nirvana knock out of the top spot when they hit no. 1?

I’m not sure how exactly to impart upon kids today just how shocking it was when Nirvana — the grungy, punky, antithesis of pop, loud band from the Pacific NorthWest — reached no. 1 on the Billboard charts.

Given the number of Nirvana shirts I see teenagers wearing these days, it seems like to a young person Nirvana was probably always one of the biggest rock bands around, and that their music was always destined to reach a broad audience. Which, of course, anyone alive and lucid in the ‘90s would say — the hell?

There was no way to see Nirvana’s Nevermind coming for the average person, which made its arrival that much more stunning.

Which band or artist did Nirvana knock out of the top spot in January of 1992?

Together with Talkspace. Who was NOT a founding member of the original Avengers? If you're a fan of the Avengers, you have DC's Justice League to thank — following the success of the superhero team's comics, Stan Lee's boss basically told him to get cranking on his own version.
